Three matches marked the opening day of the 5th PSPB Baba Deep Singh Hockey Tournament. SGTB Khalsa College defeated IGIPESS 6–0, Kirori Mal College beat St. Stephen’s 11–2, while Vivekananda College edged past Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College 1–0

New Delhi: The 5th PSPB Baba Deep Singh Hockey (Men & Women) Tournament commenced on a bright and sunny day at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, bringing together college teams from across Delhi for an exciting start to the competition.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Lalit Vats as the Chief Guest and Sarita Tyagi as the Guest of Honour. Both dignitaries addressed the players and encouraged them by sharing their experiences and motivating them to perform with dedication and sportsmanship.

The tournament was formally declared open in the presence of Gurmohinder Singh, Susheel Kumar, and Ravi Chaturvedi.

Opening Match

The inaugural match was played between SGTB Khalsa College and Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (IGIPESS). SGTB Khalsa College delivered a commanding performance, defeating IGIPESS 6–0.

Jersey No. 4 Vipin stole the spotlight with an outstanding display, scoring four goals. Manish and Tanuj added one goal each to seal the victory. Vipin was awarded the Player of the Match for his exceptional performance.

Second Match

The second match featured Kirori Mal College (KMC) against St Stephen’s College. KMC dominated the contest, securing a convincing 11–2 victory.

The standout performers for KMC were Samar Singh and Rohit Dangi, who each scored four goals. Samar Singh was named the Man of the Match for his impressive contribution.

Third Match

The third match of the day was played between Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College and Vivekananda College. The game remained closely contested throughout, with Vivekananda College eking out a 1–0 win.

The decisive moment came in the 58th minute, when Mahima (Jersey No. 9) scored the only goal of the match to secure victory for her team. Despite the loss, Monika from Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College was awarded the Player of the Match for her performance.
