The East Delhi Riders vs Central Delhi Kings, which the latter won quite convincingly by 62 runs, was largely inconsequential as both the teams had already qualified for the playoffs.
The only reason why the match held significance was that it would decide the table-topper and that would be helpful in case the Qualifier 1 is washed out with the top team, now Central Delhi Kings, going through to the final.
East Delhi Riders won the toss and elected to bowl. Missing Yash Dhull, who has been replaced by Aaryavir Sehwag, Central Delhi Kings went about in a sedate manner scoring 46/2 in six overs. Aaryavir Sehwag scored 22 off 18 balls but it was Yugal Saini who held the innings together. Saini made 52 off 32 balls (5x4s, 2x6s) and added 74 runs for the fourth wicket with Jasvir Sehrawat (37 off 35 balls; 1x4, 2x6s). That helped Central Delhi Kings reach 155/6 in 20 overs.
Money Grewal, who has been the most consistent bowler of the tournament, then wreaked havoc picking 5/23 including a hat-trick.
He got Hardik Sharma, Shivam Tripathi and Anuj Rawat as his hat-trick wickets with the delivery to Tripathi a cracking first-ball yorker that beat the batsman’s defences and left him in the shocked.
Grewal returned to get Arpit Rana caught at point and then bowled Mayank Rawat, who missed the line to a delivery that was quick and straight.
With East Delhi Riders 34/6 post Grewal’s fifer in 6.5 overs, the writing was on the wall and they folded for 93 in 16 overs.
