Leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi’s spell turned out to be the only bright spot in a below par bowling effort from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as Punjab Kings (PBKS) rode to their second win of the Indian Premier League 2025 season and moved into second place on the points table. The Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab franchise won by eight wickets on Tuesday in Lucknow.
Skipper Rishabh Pant failed to get going once again for his new franchise, getting dismissed for just two off five deliveries as LSG ended up making 171/7 in 20 overs. Nicholas Pooran top-scored with 44 off 30 balls (5x4s, 2x6s) while Ayush Badoni scored 41 off 33 balls (1x4s, 3x6s). Abdul Samad smashed 27 off 12 balls towards the end to push LSG to their eventual score.
LSG had a slow start mainly due to the failure of Mitchell Marsh at the top.
Arshdeep was the pick of Punjab Kings bowlers with 3/43 in four overs.
In response, Prabhsimran Singh hammered 69 off 34 balls (9x4s, 3x6s) to help PBKS win. Skipper Iyer top-scored with unbeaten 52 off 30 balls (3x4s, 4x6s) while Nehal Wadhera hit unbeaten 43 off 25 balls (3x4s, 4x6s).
Rathi was the only wickettaker and he ended picking 2/30 in his four overs.
In Monday’s match, Ashwani Kumar took 4/24 as he helped Mumbai Indians (MI) romp to an eight-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Kumar’s haul and impressive bowling from the rest of the bowlers helped MI restrict KKR to 116 in 16.2 overs.
Ryan Rickleton remained unbeaten on 62 off 41 balls (4x4s, 5x6s). Suryakumar Yadav raced to 27 not out off nine balls (3x4s, 2x6s).
