Rain on Tuesday brought a bit of fortune for West Delhi Lions who managed to eke out a point in their last group game, against Outer Delhi Warriors, to qualify for the playoffs of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025.
The No Result match, where not a single ball was bowled and was abandoned at around 9 pm after the umpires deemed the Ferozeshah Kotla ground wet and unfit to play following rain in the afternoon, put the team led by Nitish Rana on 11 points. They have completed their league phase are now third behind East Delhi Riders (14 points from nine) and Central Delhi Kings (13 from nine games).
Earlier in the day, the match between North Delhi Strikers and South Delhi Supertarz was abandoned due to rain after South Delhi Superstarz were 109/2 after 12 overs. The result gave both the teams two points.
While the top three teams for the playoffs have now been decided, the remaining three matches will decide the last team to qualify to the last four stage.
Ayush Badoni-led South Delhi Superstarz, with nine points, Himmat Singh-led New Delhi Tigers and Harshit Rana-led North Delhi Strikers, both with eight points each, have played nine matches and have their last games. Both Badoni and Rana won't be elading their sides as they have travelled for Duleep Trophy. One of these three will advance to playoffs that will be played on August 20 and 30 before the final on August 31.
