Athletic Drive pip Dayal Opticals to quarterfinal spot at DGC Members League

Athletic Drive made the knock-out stage edging out Dayal Opticals in the points tally with a total of 42 points as against Dayal Optical’s aggregate of 33 points

New Delhi: The duo of Kavit Laroia and Anjali Nagpal, recovered from five holes down with five to play to win the remaining five holes on the trot and contribute to their team Bliss Golfers, pipping Dayal Opticals from a quarter-final berth in the 5th Edition of the Delhi Golf Club Members League being played at the historic Delhi Golf Club.

The beneficiary of this was Athletic Drive who made the knock-out stage edging out Dayal Opticals in the points tally with a total of 42 points as against Dayal Optical’s aggregate of 33 points. Bliss Golfers on the other hand have not managed to qualify.

The contest between Dayal Opticals and Bliss Golfers began with a tie thanks to the effort of the Laroia and Nagpal duo. Dayal Opticals came back to win the second game but Bliss Golfers recovered ground with a win in the third and fourth. The fifth game was tied as was the sixth. Dayal Opticals won the seventh. Both teams tied at 7 points apiece.

In the opening match of the day between Shiva Mahindra and MMG Coca-Cola, Shiva Mahindra made an impressive start, registering wins in the first three games. MMG Coca-Cola came back to win the fourth. The next two games were tied and MMG Coca-Cola registered a win in the seventh and final game. This earned Shiva Mahindra 8 points. MMG Coca-Cola had to settle for 6 points.

The second match was played between Eagles & Birdies and Bajaj Foundation. Bajaj Foundation came on strong early in the match to win the first two games. Eagles & Birdies won the third but Bajaj Foundation undid their effort with four straight wins in a row - from the fourth to the seventh games. Bajaj pocketed 12 points to confirm their presence in the quarter-finals. Eagles & Birdies could muster up only 2 points today.

The third match of the day between TeeM EDC and Athletic Drive witnessed Athletic Drive win the first game. TeeM EDC recovered to win the second. Athletic Drive registered a win in the third game. This was when TeeM EDC pulled out their A game. They went on to register wins in the fourth, fifth and sixth games. A win in the final game for Athletic Drive couldn’t do much for their cause. TeeM EDC tallied 8 points against Athletic Drive’s tally of 6 points.
