Ghalib Institute recently organised the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed memorial lecture.

Supreme Court judge Justice (Retd) Sudhanshu Dhulia, who delivered the lecture, talked about his connection with Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, the former President of India.

“When I came to the post of judge in Guwahati, I saw his pictures in the library there and also felt that he was very respected among the people. Over time, many types of chains were put on our country. Every chain was broken, but there was also a bond of language, the grip of which sometimes loosened and sometimes tightened,” said Dhulia.

“Munshi Premchand and other intellectuals had found a solution to this [and they suggested] that the official language of India should be one that does not contain difficult words of Arabic and Sanskrit, but should be a language that can be easily understood throughout the country.”

The sermon was presided over by Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed, Chairman of Ghalib Institute.

In his presidential address, he said, "I am happy that the quality of the sermon we had expected in the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Lecture was up to standard. The topic that Justice Dhulia Sahib has chosen for himself is very broad and is related to many types of emotions and issues, but despite this, he has demonstrated very scholarly thoughts."

Welcoming the guests, Ghalib Institute Secretary Professor Siddique-ur-Rehman Kidwai said, “In the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Lecture, we always try to invite such a personality whose thoughts are the cause of increasing our insight. If we look at it, this is the same series that Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed had established in his life.

“That is, it was his dream to see that every intellectual is related to the Ghalib Institute in some way or the other and this institution should give them an opportunity to publicize their scholarly thoughts."

Ghalib Institute Director Dr Idrees Ahmed, while expressing his gratitude, said, "Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Lecture is a prestigious lecture of the Ghalib Institute. Scholars await it and many people also inquire about it.

“The reason for this is that we organise talks on Urdu literature and culture throughout the year, but this is an occasion in which some different topics are discussed. Perhaps the reason for this is that the personality of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Sahib was a multi-faceted one.”

Respected personalities associated with knowledge and literature were present on this occasion.
