New Delhi: The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), under the Ministry of Culture, celebrated 'International Women’s Day' on March 9, 2026 with a special event honouring the achievements and contributions of women across art, wellness, literature, and cultural leadership.

The celebration was led by Director General Sanjeev Kishor Goutam, who emphasised the importance of recognising women’s voices and contributions in shaping culture and society.

Speaking on the occasion, Sanjeev Kishor Goutam, Director General of NGMA, said, "International Women’s Day is a celebration of the creativity, resilience, and leadership of women whose contributions continue to enrich our cultural and social landscape."

The event featured distinguished personalities, including renowned Celebrity Nutritionist and Wellness Expert Dr. Shilpa Arora, eminent artists Jayasri Burman and Shobha Broota and Joint Secretary Lily Pandey, who shared their perspectives on women’s empowerment and creative expression.

Eminent Artist and sculptor Jayasri Burman remarked, "Art has always been a powerful medium through which women express identity, strength, and the many stories that shape our society."

Renowned contemporary artist Shobha Broota highlighted the growing presence of women in the art world, saying, "Women artists today are redefining artistic narratives and inspiring future generations to pursue creativity with courage and conviction."

Sharing her thoughts on women’s health and empowerment, Dr. Shilpa Arora said, "Empowered women begin with empowered health when women prioritise their well-being, they create stronger families, communities, and societies."

Joint secretary Lily Pandey reflected on the spirit of the day, stating, "International Women’s Day reminds us to celebrate the voices, stories, and journeys of women that continue to inspire change and progress."
