The Atorium Foundation is set to captivate audiences with its latest dance drama production, Chitrangada – Stree Ki Sarvoch Dhawani, a stirring retelling of Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless work.
Slated to be a landmark cultural event, the production brings to life the powerful journey of Chitrangada, the warrior princess of Manipur, through an evocative blend of movement, music, and storytelling.
Directed by Rahul Ray and choreographed by Nisha Ray, this original production is rooted in the epic Mahabharata, but its message feels strikingly contemporary. It wil be held on May 12 at the Muktadhara Auditorium, near Gole Market in New Delhi. It is slated to start at 6.30 pm.
The performance features an ensemble of three classical, semi- classical and Indian creative dance forms — Kathak, Mayurbhanj Chhau and the Uday Shankar dance style — each interwoven to depict the emotional and spiritual evolution of Chitrangada.
At its core, Chitrangada is a bold assertion of feminine strength, leadership, and identity — a resonant tribute to every woman who dares to defy societal expectations.
“Tagore’s Chitrangada is a visionary celebration of a woman’s right to self-determination and power,” said Rahul Ray, the director of the production.
“Through this rendition, we aim to honour her spirit — not just as a mythological figure, but as a symbol of the enduring journey towards equality and freedom.”
The Atorium Foundation, known for its commitment to using the arts as a catalyst for social change, views Chitrangada as more than a performance — it is a movement.
By reinterpreting Tagore’s masterpiece for today’s audience, the Foundation hopes to ignite important conversations around gender empowerment and identity.
The evening promises a rich cultural experience: beginning with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp, welcoming of the Guest of Honour, and a special announcement introducing the dance production. Following the performance, artists will be felicitated with certificates of appreciation, honouring their contribution to this transformative artistic endeavour.
Chitrangada – Stree Ki Sarvoch Dhawani is not just a production; it is a celebration of the supreme voice of womanhood.
Audiences are invited to witness a riveting tale that transcends time, inspiring a collective commitment towards a more just and compassionate society.
