New Delhi: Praveen Shankar Kapoor, General Secretary of the Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch, expressed hope that the long-standing deterioration in Old Delhi will now improve under the stewardship of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta who assumed charge as Chairperson of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC).
"Citizens and Traders of Old Delhi have been distressed by growing illegal encroachments on roads and footpaths, illegal rickshaws, deteriorating sewer and sanitation systems, and illegal car-parking mafias that have occupied several roads," said Kapoor, who also serves as the Delhi BJP Media Head.
Since being elected by the citizens and traders, Member of Parliament (MP) Praveen Khandelwal, along with Kapoor, have consistently held the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation responsible for these issues and have demanded its dissolution.
In recent days, Khandelwal and Kapoor, along with a delegation of citizens and traders from Chandni Chowk, met the Chief Minister and apprised her of the plight of Old Delhi, highlighting concerns not only of local residents and traders but also those expressed by the Delhi High Court.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured the delegation of initiating a path towards early resolution.
