New Delhi: Ashish Sood, Education Minister of Delhi, on Tuesday formally initiated and oversaw the computerised draw of lots conducted by the Directorate of Education at the Old Secretariat for admissions to entry-level classes (Nursery/KG/Class 1) in private unaided recognised schools for the academic session 2026–27 under the EWS/DG and Children With Special Needs (CWSN) categories.
The draw was conducted in the presence of parents and other stakeholders to ensure complete transparency and fairness in the process.
Following the computerised draw, Sood stated that the Delhi Government is committed to ensuring that every eligible child in Delhi gets access to quality education through a fair and transparent process.
He further added that this year, with the help of technological improvements, NIC-developed and approved software, and Aadhaar-based verification (encrypted Aadhaar seeding), effective checks have been implemented to eliminate duplicate and erroneous applications. This has ensured better opportunities for genuine beneficiaries.
He further stated that there has been a significant increase in the total number of seats this year, along with simplification and greater transparency in the application process. The total number of schools has increased from 2,219 in 2025–26 to 2,308 in 2026–27.
Under the EWS/DG category, seats have increased from 44,045 to 48,092, while under the CWSN category, seats have increased from 6,471 to 7,609. Thus, the total number of seats has risen from 50,516 to 55,701, marking an increase of 5,185 seats.
Sood informed that the Directorate of Education received a total of 1,39,524 applications this year. Out of these, 1,38,536 applications under the EWS/DG category were found to be complete. In the CWSN category, the number of complete applications increased from 904 to 988.
