Madras, Sehgal storm into Tyagmurti GG Dutt final after contrasting semifinal victories

Anmol’s century powers Madras into final, while Sumit Kumar’s ton helps Sehgal clinch a last-ball thriller against York to set up a mouth-watering title showdown

New Delhi: Madras Cricket Club and Sehgal Cricket Club booked their places in the final after registering impressive victories in the two semi-finals of the tournament's fourth round, setting up an exciting title clash at the SGTB Khalsa College Ground.

In the first semi-final, Madras Cricket Club outclassed Young Friends Cricket Club by 181 runs, thanks to a brilliant century by Anmol and a devastating bowling spell from Rehan Singh.

After being put in to bat, Madras Cricket Club piled up an imposing 326 for 9 in 40 overs. Anmol starred with a magnificent 127 off 87 balls, smashing 14 fours and three sixes, while Sujal Rajiv Singh contributed a valuable 55 off 47 deliveries. Vivrant and Rahul Chaudhary chipped in with 25 runs each.

Young Friends Cricket Club bowlers Tanuj Panwar (3/44), Nitin Bisht (2/43) and Piyash Chikara (2/69) were among the wickets but could not prevent Madras from posting a formidable total.

In reply, Young Friends Cricket Club were bowled out for 145 in just 20.4 overs. Tanuj Panwar fought hard with 56 off 34 balls, while Naveen Kumar scored 36 off 18 deliveries. Rehan Singh led the bowling charge with a match-winning haul of 5 for 26, while Parikshit claimed 2 for 22 as Madras secured a comprehensive victory.

Anmol was named the Kimati Player of the Match for his match-defining century, while Tanuj Panwar received the Sport Sun Fighter of the Match award for his all-round effort of 56 runs and three wickets.

The second semi-final produced a thriller as Sehgal Cricket Club edged past York Cricket Club by one wicket on the final ball of the match.

Batting first, York Cricket Club posted 320 all out in 37.4 overs, powered by a sensational innings from Himmat Singh, who hammered 175 off 110 balls, including 14 fours and 11 sixes. Siddhant Sharma contributed 52 off 46 balls, while Priyansh Arya added 46 from 33 deliveries.

For Sehgal Cricket Club, Vishal Chaudhary was the pick of the bowlers with figures of three for 56.

Chasing 321 for victory, Sehgal Cricket Club mounted a remarkable response. Sumit Kumar struck a superb 101 off 65 balls, featuring 12 fours and three sixes, while Prince Yadav made 85 off 67 deliveries and Shivam Sharma scored a brisk 58 off 38 balls.

York's bowlers kept the contest alive through Monu Shukla (3/49), Kunal Sharma (2/62), Keshav Dabas (2/75) and Siddhant Sharma (2/79), but Sehgal held their nerve to reach 321 for 9 in 40 overs and seal victory off the final delivery.

Despite ending on the losing side, Himmat Singh was adjudged the Kimati Player of the Match for his spectacular 175. Sumit Kumar received the Sport Sun Fighter of the Match award for his match-winning century.

With the semi-finals concluded, Madras Cricket Club and Sehgal Cricket Club will now face off in the tournament final, promising a fitting climax to an exciting competition.
