Swarnim Bansal, an 18-year-old top-order batsman, set the Delhi cricket's under-19 trials alight as he hit six sixes in an over on way to 229 off 161 balls (23x4s and 12x6s) in a match played at the SSC Ground in Rohini.

Bansal was representing Kishan Ganj Gymkhana against South Delhi Colts.

“I went to open the innings. I had completed my 100 by the time I hit those six sixes, so I had a freer mind and wanted to score quickly. When I was at 120, I hit six sixes and got my 150,” said Bansal who trains at the Delhi Cricket Hub Academy under Harish Dagar.

“When I hit two sixes on the first two balls, I went to my partner, the non-striker and told him that I will go for six sixes.

“I am 18. I began playing cricket in Gurgaon when I was nine. In 2020, when the lockdown ended, I shifted to Delhi Cricket Hub Academy under Harish Dagar in Paschim Vihar. I stay at the academy hostel in Peeragarhi. I was 13 in 2020 when I made the move to join the academy,” said Bansal who bats in the middle order but is opening the batting here because the team wanted to score big runs.

“AB de Villiers is my hero because of his batting ability. He can adapt to any situation. He can play T20 style and bat as if in a Test match,” added Bansal who studied at Saint Froebel School in Paschim Vihar. The academy is also at the school and he practises there.

Despite Bansal's six-hitting feat and his double century, South Delhi Colts won the match by six runs. South Delhi had made 407/8 in 50 overs with small but important contributions from many batsmen, while Kishan Ganj Gymkhana were restricted to 401/4 in 50 overs.
