Delhi under-23 skipper Tanisha Singh scored an unbeaten 255 off 138 balls (37x4s), the highest ever by a Delhi woman player in the BCCI Women’s Under-23 One-Day Trophy, as Delhi cruised to the pre-quarterfinals of the tournament.

Tanisha played the double century knock against Nagaland as Delhi cricket team romped to 454/3 in 50 overs. They then dismissed the Northeastern team for just 59 in 23.4 overs to register a 395-run win. Madhu took 3/12 to end as the top wickettaker from the match.

Delhi then defeated Pondicherry by eight wickets. They first dismissed the southern Indian state for 49 in 21.5 overs with Madhu picking 7/10. They chased the target with eight wickets to spare, reaching 53/2 in 14.3 overs.

Both the matches were played in Chandigarh.

Delhi now play Baroda in the pre-quarterfinal on March 18 in Guwahati. They had finished second in Group C behind Maharashtra with 16 points, winning four games in five matches.

“We chose to bat [against Nagaland] to get more confidence. I wanted to bat only and play till the end. I thought we will win. I was just trying to middle the ball and play till the end. I wanted to just see the ball and react,” said Tanisha, 22, who has already led Delhi to title in Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.

“My mind was on the present. I didn’t want to think too far ahead. This is what we are going to do in the upcoming matches,” said the right-handed top order batter who leads the run-scoring charts at the all-India level with 425 runs in five matches at an average of 212.5 with a strike rate of 130.36. She has scored one hundred and two fifties.

Pragya Rawat is the next best for Delhi, in 12th place at all-India level, with an aggregate of 223 runs in five matches.

Off-spinner Madhu is the top wickettaker in the tournament at the all-India level, having picked 15 scalps in five matches at an average of 7.06.

Delhi will be boosted by the return of Parunika Sisodia, Shweta Sehrawat and Priya Mishra who are busy in the Women’s Premier League at the moment.
