New Delhi: Left-handed batsman Samarth Seth was unlucky to have missed an opportunity to play for the Delhi team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. He had a decent stint at Delhi Premier League (DPL) and comes in with the experience of having played first-class cricket in Sri Lanka and club cricket in England. So it was a surprise that he wasn't picked for Delhi team.
However, the 26-year-old is not wasting any time in brooding over the past. He is now using opportunities in local cricket to put his case forward.
Seth was in prime form in the 12th Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh T-20 Cricket Tournament 2026 at S.G.T.B. Khalsa College, as he hammered 109 off 56 balls to help Uday Bhan Cricket Academy thrash Tilak Nagar Colts C.C. by a massive 189-run margin in the quarterfinal.
Batting first, Uday Bhan racked up a formidable 252/3 in 20 overs. Seth's knock was laced with powerful strokes all around the ground. He was ably supported by Siddharth Joon, who hammered 58 off 24 deliveries, ensuring a daunting total on the board.
In reply, Tilak Nagar Colts CC crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for 63 in 14.4 overs. Off-spinner Saqlain Haider, pacer Shaurya Malik, pacer Garv Sangwan, left-arm spinner Manan Bhardwaj and leg-spinner Aman Saini took two wickets each.
Seth was adjudged Man of the Match for his scintillating century.
"The pitch was good to bat. Siddharth Joon (58 off 24) gave a good start. I was timing the ball and just carried on the momentum," said Seth who scored 65 not out in the last DDCA League T20 match.
"I avoid taking unnecessary risks. I have been trying to learn to build momentum and innings in the off-season prior to this season with the help trainer Ankur Tyagi and coach Rajan Sachdeva."
Tilak Nagar CC was a strong team, including some Ranji Trophy players.
In the other quarter-final, Rann Star registered a confident seven-wicket win over SGTB Khalsa.
Batting first, SGTB Khalsa posted 170/5 in 20 overs. Harsh Bhati played a fine unbeaten knock of 42 off 22 balls, while Aditya Kumar scored 33 and Sanskaar added 29 at the top.
